So, here it is. My first post:
I have three reasons for starting this blog. First, let me tell you what it’s about – in 2018 I plan to spend the year travelling the globe. My blog will be about how I get from point A (here and now), to point B (getting on the plane in January 2018). I’ve travelled enough to know I’m addicted to it, but not nearly enough to quench my thirst. Here’s where I’ve been so far:
Now for the reasons for this blog:
1. To stay accountable. It will take some time and effort and certainly discipline to achieve my goal of travelling the world without going into debt, or quitting my job. I intend to use this blog to state how I plan to save the money, and to update on my successes and failures. I want this blog to be a living journal that will help me to track my goals.
2. To get input and ideas. I’m hoping some people will read my blog and offer some suggestions and give me feedback. Once I start putting my 2018 itinerary together this will become hugely important to me. If you have ideas on how to trim back on costs, or you think I should add an amazing hidden gem to my itinerary, then please let me know! I’m here to share and to learn.
3. To offer inspiration. So many people tell me how “lucky” I am to have experienced the adventures I have (more about adventures in another post). I am always puzzled by that. We are all able to make choices in our lives. I may have had some interesting adventures, but that’s what I chose to do with my money. I drive an old car, and live in a small condo. I wish I had a nice car and a big back yard, but I chose, for example, to hang glide in Nepal instead. Luck has nothing to do with it. If you ever had a desire to pursue something, whether it’s travel, or starting a company, or getting that degree (ahem), then hopefully this blog might help you to put one foot in front of the other and go for it. After all, we are only on this earth a short time, let’s make the most of it!
Oh, and one more thing. If it isn’t already painfully obvious, I am not an experienced blogger (read my about page). I’m hoping this blog will help me to hone those skills as well. I expect my posts will get fancier as time goes on 🙂 – If I can’t dazzle you with content, then hopefully I’ll astound you with presentation!
