My 2014 Resolution – Less Crap

1451552_10151832118753172_1326517979_nI always make a New Years Resolution.  Developing one helps me to take stock of what I want and what I need to do to get there.

What I want is more freedom, and what I need to do to get there is to let go of the crap that keeps me shackled.  And I’m not just talking about “stuff”.  When I say “less crap”, I mean:

I intend to de-own everywhere.  There’s absolutely no reason to hang on to a sweater I haven’t worn in 3 years.  Why do I own eight cereal bowls?  I have a media storage cabinet that holds no media – yet I pay a cleaning service to dust it twice a month. That’s just nuts.

Stress can rob you of so many things, like sleep, well-being and overall happiness.  I intend to take time out to de-stress, unplug, and spend more time in nature.

Less Crap in My Food20130419-203442I’ve been pretty good about this one, but lately I’ve fallen off the wagon and have to get back on.  I feel so much better when I eat whole foods compared to manufactured garbage.

Now that I have enough air miles to go to China and back, I’m going to retire my American Express Air Miles card.  I have been putting EVERYTHING I could on this card in order to earn air miles.  Of course I paid it off every pay day, but I find you spend a lot more when you can just swipe a card rather than count the twenties out of your wallet.  So from now on, it’s cash or debit for everything.

I came across a blog called Becoming Minimalist that will be a great resource for my resolution.  If you are feeling weighed down by crap too, I highly recommend it.

Here’s to a crapless 2014.  Cheers!
